Why Does Jesus Call And Sees Himself As “The Amen” Of (Rev 3:14)?

 My Dearly Beloved,

Welcome to this moment of grace as we unfold this spiritual mysteries of the kingdom.

14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

a) these things saith the Amen. Why does Jesus call Himself the “Amen”?

We can easily read over this. Especially since the word “Amen” has been so overused to the point where it has almost lost its meaning. I’m sure many of you have been to churches where the preacher says something and all the people say “Amen” after just about every thing he says.

Amen brother! Can I get an Amen? Amen anyone? And on it goes…

But here is what The Institutes of Biblical Law has to say about this:

Associated with this title of “witness” is another, “the Amen” (Rev. 3:14). God’s Amen means that He is faithful, i.e., “Thus it is and shall be so,” whereas man’s “amen” is an assent to God’s and means “so let it be.” The Amen was frequently an assent to the law (Deut 27:15; cp. Neh. 5:13). Jesus Christ is the Amen of God, because through Him “the purposes of God are established, II Cor. 1:20.” In Revelation 3:14, Jesus is the Amen because He is “the faithful and true witness,” He who declares the law, gives testimony concerning all offenses against it, and, where men will not accept their death penalty in Christ’s atonement, He executes sentence against the offender.

In other words, the word “Amen” was often used in a legal sense, to agree upon something, like a law or a judgment (See Deut 27:14-26).

So Christ calling himself the “Amen” is another sign that the entire book of Revelation is connected to the law. Revelation is the fulfillment of the law. More specifically it is primarily a detailed explanation of the judgments that will be meted out upon the earth in the form of the seals, trumpets, thunders, and vials.

That’s why we need to study the law. For one cannot understand this book of Revelation without knowledge of the law. There is just no way around it.

So this nonsense being peddled out there that Christians are no longer under the law is just completely false. The Book of Revelation documents to us that the entire world is under God’s law. And they will be judged according to it.

Thankfully those of us covered by the blood of the lamb don’t have to worry about the punishments/judgments, Christ took those for us. But those who are not, well, the death angel is coming for them.
